EATI is Proud to Announce Dr. Deborah Haisch as Our New Director of Field Operations

EATI is proud to announce Dr. Deborah Haisch as our new director of field operations. Dr. Haisch started her work with EATI in 2017 in both clinical training and research. She has been instrumental in expanding the research capacity of the program.

Chest Foundation Awarded EATI a $15,000 Community Service Grant

Chest Foundation, the patient-focused philanthropic arm of the American College of Chest Physicians, awarded EATI a $15,000 community service grant in August 2020. This grant would facilitate the procurement of medical equipment and expansion of Project ECHO, our web-based education program. EATI also received Chest Foundation community service grants previously in 2016 and 2018.

EATI Thanks the Segal Family Foundation

In April 2019, EATI received a $25,000 grant from the Segal Family Foundation. This grant will be used to achieve certain milestones, such as extending clinical training to other East African countries, expanding the research capacity of EATI, and tracking the clinical impact of all hospitals in Ethiopia currently staffed by graduates of the program.

EATI Graduation

In February 2019, EATI graduated three more pulmonary-critical care specialist: Dr. Hanan Yusuf, Dr. Gebeyaw Alemnew, and Dr. Tekleweyn Solomon, bringing the total number of EATI graduates to twelve.

EATI Hosted a Fundraiser in Washington, DC on May 20th, 2017!

The fundraiser took place on the evening of May 20th and featured an evening of Ethiopian cuisine, wine, and a piano recital featuring EATI’s own clinical instructor and Chairman of Fundraising, Dr. Joseph Huang. EATI Graduates Its Third Class of Ethiopian Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows

Dr. Tewodros Haile and Dr. Dawit Kebede became the third class of Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows to graduate from EATI. The graduation ceremony took place on February 6, 2017. Dr. Tewodros will become the Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Division at AAU and Dr. Dawit will become the Director of Critical Care Services at AAU.

EATI Graduate Dr. Tewodros Haile Presented at the Union World Conference on Lung Health in the United Kingdom

In October 2016, Dr. Tewodros Haile had the distinction of presenting at the 47th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Liverpool. The conference was attended by over 3,000 participants from 126 countries and is the world’s largest gathering of clinicians, public health workers, health program managers, policymakers, researchers, and advocates. The Union World Conference specifically focuses on the challenges faced by the low- and middle-income countries with the goal of the conference is to rid the world of tuberculosis and address issues relating to lung health.

CHEST Foundation Awarded EATI a $15,000 Community Service Grant

Dr. E. Jane Carter was awarded the $15,000 CHEST Foundation Community Service Grant for East African Training Initiative. Dr. Joseph Huang attended the American College of Chest Foundation awards ceremony on Oct 24th, 2016 on her behalf. The grant is a tremendous honor and allows EATI to provide procedural workshops in airway management, advanced bronchoscopy, central line placement, and pigtail chest tube placement.
